About East Prairie

A History: A Small Schoolhouse Blooms Into Thriving Learning Center

East Prairie School once stood as a small schoolhouse with less than 100 children in attendance. As the community grew, the original schoolhouse was replaced with a new building in 1956, and subsequent additions were made as the school population increased.

Currently, over 550  students are enrolled in grades K-8. Academic excellence is pursued with a strong emphasis on language arts, math, science, social studies, music, art, STEM technology and Spanish in grades 4-8.

Extracurricular Activities Focus On Leadership and Teamwork

The students are given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of school sponsored extracurricular activities, such as Band, Chorus, and Yearbook and other After School Clubs.  The Battle of the Books in grades 5-8 quizzes students on their knowledge of literature as they compete against neighboring schools. Student leadership is encouraged through sixth grade Leadership Club and the Student Council, which recruits members from the 7th and 8th grades. Sports are well represented at East Prairie School, as boys and girls elect to participate in soccer, basketball, volleyball, track, cross-country, and cheerleading.

Parents and Teachers Work Together To Create An East Prairie School Family

Parent involvement is always welcomed and the East Prairie Parent/Teacher Association is tremendously active in numerous of the events mentioned above. Some of the PTA-sponsored events include: the Fall Fun Fair, the Spring Family Picnic, and the Room Parent Programs.  In addition, the PTA sponsors several book fairs and other opportunistic activities.

The students at East Prairie School are provided with a safe and positive climate. Each child has the opportunity to succeed and to be recognized for their accomplishments.
