Arrival MapDear East Prairie Community,

We are beyond excited to be in our incredible new space and wanted to reach out with the plans for pick-up and drop-off to begin the school year.  Construction remains in full force as crews work to complete the outside areas before the arrival of winter.  Our utmost priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child.  Our school team has worked with the Skokie Police Department and Engineering Division to devise and implement the following traffic safety plans.  Please take the time to review the information so that we can assure a safe, orderly, and timely arrival and departure for all of our students.  As always, if you have a question, concern, or idea please don’t hesitate to reach out.  Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and partnership as we work through these first couple of weeks!

Arrival to school

There are currently 3 entrances to the building.  Each door will be supervised by our staff and open for students to enter the building.  Upon entering the building, students will be directed to a specific gathering areas based on their grade levels to meet their teachers.

There will continue to be 4 crossing guards to help students safely cross the major intersections at the corners of the school.  Please cross only as directed at the appropriate intersections and make sure to stay on all sidewalks.  As always, please do not cross at Crawford and Dobson.  Proceed south and cross at the intersection of Howard and Crawford.

Dobson Street will be open for student drop-offs only.  Please note there is NO PARKING or standing on this street at this time.  After dropping students off, cars will continue north through the alley and out to Brummel Street.  Due to the construction on the remainder of the site, Dobson Street will be blocked after the alley.  Children should be dropped along the sidewalk closest to the building.  Upon drop-off, cars must continue to move through the alley and out to Brummel.  We cannot back up traffic on Crawford.  There will be a police detail on site to help keep traffic flow moving efficiently.

Students that are being bused to school will be dropped off on the corner of East Prairie Road and Dobson.  They will proceed down the sidewalk and across Dobson Street through a fenced area, away from any construction.  They will then proceed into the outside classroom doors.

Another alternative to drop-off is to park within the neighborhood or at Hamlin Park & Lakeside Church and walk your children to one of the labeled entrances.  This option is highly encouraged as it helps to reduce vehicular traffic immediately surrounding the school.
If you are biking to school a bike rack will be placed near the building on Dobson Street.  The exact location will depend upon the state of construction and will be shared in the near future.

Dismissal from school

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade dismissal - 3:00PM

K-3 students getting picked up from school will be waiting outside of the school along Dobson Street (Entrance 1 on map).  There is NO PARKING allowed on Dobson Street at this time.  Families picking up students must park, get out of their vehicle, and make an in person connection with their child’s teacher.  Children will not be dismissed straight to cars.  Recommended parking is at Hamlin Park, Lakeside Church, and safely within the neighborhood.

4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th grade dismissal - 3:30PM

4-8 students will be able to exit the building through all three doors (Entrances 1, 2, and 3 on map).  There is NO PARKING allowed on Dobson Street at this time.  Families picking up students must park, get out of their vehicle, and meet their child at a spot predetermined by the family.  Recommended parking is at Hamlin Park, Lakeside Church, and safely within the neighborhood.  Students will be guided towards crossing the street at appropriate intersections with crossing guards on duty.

The Skokie Police Department will be present during these opening days to help ensure safety and compliance with these collaboratively developed plans.  Our entire staff will be present and visible throughout the interior and exterior of the building to ensure a safe and secure arrival and dismissal for our students.  That being said, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of each child is the responsibility of our entire East Prairie community.  We ask for your assistance in ensuring a safe and orderly passage to and from school.  Please make sure to stay off your phone and follow the plans detailed above.  As always, if you have a question, concern, or idea please don’t hesitate to reach out.  Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and partnership as we work through this exciting opening!

In partnership,

The East Prairie Team
