GOALS/STANDARDS and BENCHMARKS:
ISBE Science Goals
11.B.3b:Sketch, propose and compare design solutions to the problem considering available materials, tools, cost
effectiveness and safety.
*Students will choose four designs from CO2website, sketch designs and compare each design.
11.B.3c:Select the most appropriate design and build a prototype or simulation.
*Students will sketch their car design, transfer the design to wood block and then carve wood
block.
11.B.3d:Test the prototype using available materials, instruments and technology and record the data.
*Students will race their CO2 car and mark where their car stops.
11.B.3e:Evaluate the test results based on established criteria, note sources of error and recommend
improvements.
*Students will evaluate their car’s results and complete the product evaluation worksheet.
13.B.3b:Identify important contributions to science and technology that have been made by individuals and
groups from various cultures.
*Students will identify major changes brought about by ships, airplanes and automobiles and
important individuals that contributed to the advancement of these modes of transportation.
