ISBE Goals

  • 3.A.3: Write compositions that contain complete sentences and effective paragraphs using English conventions.
    • Students will create a simple document, edit text and check for spelling errors.
  • 3.B.3a: Produce documents that convey a clear understanding and interpretation of ideas and information and display focus, organization, elaboration and coherence.
    • Students will design a newsletter about the classes offered at East Prairie.
  • 3.C.3b: Using available technology, produce compositions and multimedia works for specified audiences.
    • Students will make use of Microsoft Word and iWork Pages to create a newsletter and flyer.
  • 4.B.3b: Design and produce reports and multi-media compositions that represent group projects.
    • Students will compile their original articles to create a school newsletter.

Students will

  1. learn basic navigation skills to effectively use Microsoft Word.
  2. create a simple document, edit text and check for spelling errors.
  3. format the document and adjust the page layout.
  4. preview, print, save and open files.
  5. record their Words Per Minute after each keyboarding activity.
  6. compare their WPMs from the beginning of the quarter with the end of the quarter.


  • Materials Needed:projector, Microsoft Word, Learning.com, iWork Pages
  • activities, quizzes and other materials are attached and also located inthe “Word Processing” binder in the Tech Lab (room B10).

1. Students receive scores for completing the “Word Processing Basics” lessons on Learning.com (EPSTS3)
2. Students will take quizzes (attached) after Learning.com lesson. (EPSTS3)
